Belgium Battle Fields

Itinerary
 
Day One:
We leave Banovallum School at 8.00 am. Travel by coach to Dover for our ferry crossing. Once we leave the ferry, we have a coach journey of about one hour to out accommodation in Ypres where an evening meal will be waiting for us.
 
Day Two:
Most of the day will be spent in the Ypres Salient. Later we visit the ‘In Flanders Field Museum’. In the evening we go ten pin bowling.
 
Day Three:
We travel by coach to Vimy Ridge and the Somme Battlefield. At Vimy Ridge we visit the battle field tunnels; the site is explained by an expert guide. On the Somme we will be met by an expert guide who will give the pupils a tour of the sites.
 
Day Four:
Again we will be in the Ypres area, our main focus will be Messines Ridge and the church associated with a wounded corporal named Adolf Hitler. In the Afternoon we visit the city of Bruges for a cruise along the canal and some site seeing. In the evening we take part in the ceremony at the Menin Gate where pupils will lay a wreath.
 
Day Five:
We Have Breakfast and then travel to the channel ports. Here we visit a Hyper-Market, before boarding the ferry to come home. We will arrive back at Banovallum School at 8.00 pm.
 
   
Accommodation
 
Accommodation is provide at the CJT De Lep, a very popular centre situated only 20 minutes walk from Ypres town centre and therefore close to all amenities. Pupils are accommodated in two and three bedded rooms with washbasins and bathrooms are on each floor of the centre. We will be the only group staying at the centre. There are good facilities at the centre and there is a phone should any pupil wish to phone home.
