Examinations and Reports

Assessment Tests, Examinations and Reports

Each child’s progress in every subject is monitored on a regular basis using a range of procedures including end of term commendations for progress as well as tests/examinations at mid- year and, or end of year. Year 9 pupils sit standard assessment tests during May as part of the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 as laid down by the DfES.

Parents are informed about academic progress through reports and Records of Achievement. Parents Consultation Evenings are held so that parents may have the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with the staff concerned.

Examinations

All courses in years 11 and 10 lead to public examinations.
It is generally expected that when a pupil starts a course he or she will be entered for the examination at the end of it.

The general policy at Banovallum is to encourage all pupils to strive for examination success. This results in our pupils developing high aspirations and expectations.

At present our pupils take GCSE, Entry Level and GNVQ.

The policy relating to the payment of examination fees is:

  • The school will normally pay for the subject which the school has recommended.
  • If, after being entered with the appropriate examining body, a pupil fails to attend an examination or to complete the course for reasons other than medical, parents will be asked to repay the cost of the wasted fee.
Rewards

It is the policy at Banovallum to encourage our pupils to produce their best work and effort. To support this, a merit awards system in the Lower School and a positive referral system in the Upper School exist, which in turn supports the annual presentation evening held towards the end of the summer term as a grand finale of our pupils successes and achievement.

Certificates are awarded to pupils for accumulating merits or positive referrals during the year. Certificates of Achievement are awarded to pupils at the end of each term for attendance, effort and progress.
