Special Educational Needs
Pupils have learning difficulties of many types. We seek to identify such learning difficulties via our visits to Primary Schools and their records, by means of screening tests and by referral from individual subject teachers. In acute cases, we are able to call upon the support of the Educational Psychologist. We try to provide as much help as we can by supporting pupils in their normal class and the school has an Educational Support Unit for general learning difficulties. Help is also sought for pupils who are exceptionally gifted but who have difficulties in demonstrating their abilities to the full.
The Head of the Educational Support Unit co-ordinates all aspects of Special Needs. These responsibilities include the help and support of all teachers in recognising and meeting the special needs of individual pupils within their normal class. The Co-ordinator also works closely with outside bodies who may be able to assist a pupil and is supported by other staff and Learning Support Assistants.
