The Curriculum

There are 25 hours in the teaching week for pupils; 25 periods of 1 hour duration each; Assemblies, clubs, activities are in addition to the 25 hour pupil week. Personal, Social and Health Education is an integral part of the curriculum for all.

Year 7 Each of the pupils who enter Banovallum is allocated one to five mixed ability groups which form the basis of pastoral and academic structure. Pupils in year 7 are following a board based curriculum which compiles with the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Year 8 Pupils are set according to ability in most subjects teaching groups. They follow a broad based curriculum which complies with the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Year 9 In Year 9 there continues to be similar arranged groups for registration and teaching purposes as for Year 8 within the National Curriculum framework.
Year 10
The school policy is to ensure that all students in years 10 and 11 have the opportunity to pursue two-year courses leading to public examination – which is normally the GCSE examination, or some other externally-validated qualification e.g. GCSE, entry level, GNVQ.
 
Pupils across the Year Group are re-organised into sets for English, French, Mathematics and Science according to their ability.
Year 11
Year 11 pupils continue with their two-year courses which they began in Year 10.
