All students study food as part of their work in design technology. Students learn through a series of projects where they produce folder work as well as by making the product they design.

Food at KS4

GCSE home economics: Food and nutrition consists of a variety of activities both written and practical. The beginning of the course concentrates on being both skills base and practical. Ingredients are supplied from home.

The specification covers topics on

  • Nutrition and health

  • Food commodities

  • Meal planning

  • Food preparation and cooking

  • Food safety and preservation

  • Consumer education

Controlled assessments consists of three short tasks which demonstrate different practical skills and knowledge and one food study task which will assess a variety of skills. One examination is sat at the end of the course.
