The Aims of the Department

Teaching geography at Banovallum incorporates the following aims

  1. To endeavour to make the subject matter fun and encourage as high a standard of learning and presentation as possible.
  2. To enable students of all abilities to develop a range of skills necessary to carry out geographical enquiry and to interpret geographical information.
  3. To encourage students to develop an interest in and understanding of the environment in which they live, both local and worldwide.
  4. To encourage an understanding of different communities and cultures in the world and help them to appreciate other people's values and attitudes.                   
  5. To develop an understanding of how activities and places are linked by the movement of people, materials and information.
  6. To encourage students to take an active part as citizens in society and to appreciate, protect and conserve their environment.
