Overview

Banovallum Maths department continues to improve and develop. Our students have benefited greatly from the continuing implementation of the Key Stage 3 National Numeracy Strategy As a result we have seen a continuous improvement in SATs and GCSE results, last year achieving the best GCSE results in the history of Banovallum  School!

On entry to the school in year 7, students are taught in their mixed ability tutor sets for the first half term before being streamed by ability based on KS2 Levels, midysis tests, and teacher assessment. Student setting continues to be reviewed continuously during Key Stage 3.

In key Stage 4 students are taught in five ability sets which are determined by the SAT results. Students will follow the OCR Linear syllabus

In any year, a mixture of learning activities is used, including teacher led discussions and tasks, small group investigations, use of ICT, and text book practice. To assist in our teaching, we now have interactive whiteboards installed in each of the 4 maths classrooms. Our aim is to make mathematics as accessible and enjoyable as possible for all our students through the use of a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
